Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the teeth that usually erupt between the age of 17-25. In some cases wisdom teeth may be congenitally missing however in most of the population the wisdom teeth may be present wisdom tooth can erupt normally or it can be problematic that is it does not erupt in the right positioning in the process of the eruption can cause pain and swelling. Wisdom tooth may be present in the jaw but sometimes it does not erupt. Such tooth is called impacted tooth which may need surgical extraction. However wisdom tooth extraction may sometimes be a difficult case to deal with due to its anatomical position and proximity to the nerve supplying the chin and the lip. Prior to extraction of the wisdom tooth idiographic evaluation is a must. A normal orthopanthogram or a CBCT (cone beam CT) may be required prior to the extraction Certain complications including ,pain, swelling paraesthesia and loss of sensation and taste and jaw fracture are some of the possibilities after extraction of the wisdom tooth however careful evaluation and surgical planning will minimize the complications.
